Marvin Gaye - Heard It Through the Grapevine (Acapella)

One of the best voices in human history, Marvin Gaye, on full display here on the "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" Acapella. Apparently Marvin was uncomfortable singing the entire song in the particular range that Norman Whitfield, the writer & producer of the song, made him sing it in. Marvin was frustrated by it in the studio. It's said that's why his voice has that perfect strain and multilayered emotion. The producer clearly knew best, refusing to budge when Marvin pleaded to sing in a lower key. It ended up being one of the most iconic American songs ever and peak Motown. On the second verse the way he phrases believe in "people say BELIEVE" is pretty incredible in particular. Adding to Marvin Gaye's 4 octave vocal range were The Andantes' on background harmonizing vocals, the Funk Brothers on the rhythm track and the cherry on top, the string section from the goddamn Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Instant classic. #MarvinGaye #IheardItThroughTheGrapevine
